Here’s a story where the major political Murphy gang ran up against a revered figure who chose to ally himself with the other side. Simply put, the gang hired a hand to murder him. Fortunately, the U. S. Army intervened and caught the assassin and locked him up in Fort Stanton, New Mexico. The Army officers could not be bribed nor persuaded to release the murderer – even for lynching. The trial was held – the penalty was death by hanging but the political leader had one more trick up his sleeve. HAND HIM QUICK CUT HIM DOWN QUICKER and before he died, place his body in an unsealed coffin for his escape. Well, EBay has run the bell on the rest of the story so you will just have to read how it comes out. . There were many a western story published – the common ones about Cowboys and Indians are listed on Ebay every day but the rarer ones about the pioneers of the old west like this one are seldom found. Collectors treasure them and their price guide value rises every day. They are hard to find. I hunt them out because really the better, untold and rarer stories were published in the rest. Here’s one of ‘em. Following my retirement, I have dedicated my remaining hours to indexing the Genealogy of our western pioneers. During my research, I discovered that thousands of our kinfolk lay unfound and unrecognized on some book dealer’s shelf. Because Old Western History and Memorabilia was printed before computer indexing, I index every item I sell. This complete index will be bound and included in this offering at no additional cost. Humbly, I am trying to keep our history alive I hope you appreciate the effort. Folks, sooner or later - Genealogists are going to realize that their family kinfolks are laying on some dealer's dusty shelves. If I can contribute to finding one little name or photo of that long lost ancestor you have been waiting to find, it’s worth all the time I spend. As a tribute to the honor of our American Indians, my indexed listings will include all Indian names mentioned in the story from this time on DOUBLE HANGING AT LINCOLN By Lily Casey Klasner Submitted by Eve Ball Illustrations by Al Martin Napolentano ANCESTORS INDEXED HEREIN, CIRCA: 1867 ANCESTOR’S LOCATION: NEW MEXICO GENEALOGY NAMES INDEXED: ANNALLA, Pedro, member of the jury AXTELL, Governor of New Mexico BACA, Saturnino, Captain, Sheriff of Lincoln County, New Mexico BAIL, John D., of Mesilla and Prosecuting and District Attorney BALL, Eva, co-Author BRADY, William, Major, Foreman of the Grand Jury BRISTOL, Judge – presiding over the trial of Wilson. It’s a shame that our past is being lost. It’s as simple as that. What a story, Rare Story!!! Great Pictures. You will love it as it was published in this old complete western magazine of many years ago. The issue is in good condition, the cover is in vibrant color. As clearly stated in my description, this is featured story in a rarely found and seldom read unusual and complete western magazine. I don't give out name of publication or date because I have caught competitors copying my index and work and trying to sell it as theirs. I hope you understand.
